Sometimes the best inspiration for a story comes from our wonderful readers. This time, the feedback came from Hagerty Media reader CitationMan when he said, “The Slate (truck) echoes the lines of your Mid Century house!” That sentiment delighted me, as I am proud of my humble abode. But his statement got me thinking about homes for cars, because perhaps they can complement each other.
The comment that created a story came from the photo below (left), and I have always enjoyed parking my cars in my driveway and taking them in amid their mid-century scenery. The eaves extend significantly from the walls, so it’s fun to hang out there and watch the rain slide down the sheetmetal. While I initially considered adding rain gutters to my roof, I decided I like the clean look, reduced maintenance, and sound of water dripping across the roof. (And the London-worthy droplets look perfect on the front of my long-neglected Ford Sierra, a car that I imported from the U.K. about 15 years ago.)

There’s something therapeutic about beholding your car at its abode, especially with the tranquil sounds of nature. Rain and thunder can have a calming effect on some folks, though I quickly go inside when it starts getting intense. While I can’t bring the cars inside with me, at least they give me a little automotive therapy with no effort on their part!
I know this isn’t an ordinary question for our readers, and I hope it doesn’t fall flat on its face. I reckon we all would love to have a perfect place to keep our cars, and our car stuff, because it would all look so perfect together.
Drum roll, please! So here’s the question: What’s Your Perfect Automotive Abode?
