On its third-quarter 2026 earnings call, held on Oct. 28, 2026, UMB Financial (NASDAQ:UMBF) announced an agreement to acquire Eldorado Savings Bank alongside quarterly net income of $272.3 million. The transaction expands the bank’s footprint into California and Nevada. It brings low-cost liquidity, or cash available for deployment, to fund core lending operations.

Three things management said stand out.

1. Eldorado Savings Bank Acquisition Expands West Coast Deposit Base

UMB Financial agreed to buy Placerville, California-based Eldorado Savings Bank for $560 million in a cash-and-stock deal, adding 35 branches and $2.1 billion in retail deposits. The transaction is accretive, meaning it boosts per-share earnings, while bringing a low 24% loan-to-deposit ratio, which measures how much of a bank’s deposits are tied up in loans.

With $2.1 billion in high-quality core consumer deposits, $500 million in loans, we view this acquisition as akin to a branch transaction.
— Ram Shankar, Chief Financial Officer

2. Loan Production Reaches $3.1 Billion With Strict Credit Discipline

Organic lending expanded rapidly as quarterly loan production reached $3.1 billion, driven by growth in commercial and industrial loans. Management maintained tight underwriting standards and kept non-performing loans, or loans in default, at 28 basis points of total loans.

The flexibility is we might be flexible on terms or a covenant or what have you, but we are not flexible on credit quality. That is the underlying ingredient, if you will, that is remained true for the history of the company.
— Jim Rine, President of the Holding Company and Chief Executive Officer of UMB Bank

3. Institutional Banking Fee Revenue Expands Through Specialized Fund Services

Fee income from institutional banking provided a steady counterweight to interest rate shifts, supported by an expansion into exchange-traded fund (ETF) servicing. Private wealth teams also gathered $1.2 billion in net new assets during the first nine months of 2026, matching full-year 2025 levels.

Our fund services team is on fire. The pipeline is very strong. With the addition of our ETF business, we expect the coming year to be very strong just in the ETF side alone.
— J. Mariner Kemper, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer

Looking Ahead

Commercial loan pipelines remain active, and management expects core net interest margin, the difference between what a bank earns on loans and pays on deposits, to remain flat.

Customer sentiment remains strong, and our pipeline for the fourth quarter remains healthy.
— Ram Shankar, Chief Financial Officer

The bank is deploying artificial intelligence tools to streamline workflows while screening for select acquisitions with stable retail funding.

If you find high quality institutions that can make your company more valuable over time, every company should look at those things.
— J. Mariner Kemper, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
