The decision of the national government of Suspending embargoes on small and medium-sized businesses sparked an immediate response from the opposition. Different legislators came out at the intersection of the announcement by the Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo, to warn that the benefit comes at the wrong time and that the postponement of the judicial measures does not resolve the decline in productive activity.
The head of the La Libertad Avanza bloc in the Senate, Patricia Bullrich, celebrated the official measure, which prompted a quick response from the Unión por la Patria senator Eduardo “Wado” de Pedro: “If the measure announced by the government is to suspend the embargoes, it is because they were already late, Patricia”.
The legislator pointed directly to the Casa Rosada policy: “What is melting SMEs is not the embargo, it is the economic model that you implement every time you come to power. They impoverish workers, increase unemployment, put the country and families into debt while doing business for financial scams.. SMEs can’t take it anymore. It’s not about putting patches but about changing course.” Deputy Pablo Juliano also joined, who questioned the real impact of the tax truce: “We have reached the point where the ‘great news’ for SMEs is that they are not going to be seized. Until May…”.
For his part, Senator Mariano Recalde remarked: “The data that the Government can no longer hide. Delinquency reached Argentine SMEs”. Along these lines, he explained that “families go into debt because it is not enough for them,” added to the fact that “sales fall, production falls and SMEs also go into debt,” which generates “a vicious circle that has one cause: recession.” After remembering that “in the Senate we presented the Delinquency Map of Argentine SMEs, prepared by @cecarrgentina, together with representatives of the productive sector from across the country,” he concluded: “The problem is the economic model. As long as the Government insists on this course, there is no way out for Argentine SMEs”.
The opposition claim occurred after the Caputo’s presentation at the UIA conferencewhere he presented four specific measures: the suspension of ARCA embargoes for SMEs until May 2027, the extension to 18 installments of the payment plan for debts accumulated as of October 31, the possibility of using the total balances in favor of VAT for exports to pay customs procedures, and credits from Banco Nación for the automobile industry at a fixed 20% annual rate for five years.
