Puebla, Pue. In the municipality of Pueblaone of every four businesses that opened so far in 2026, had to close due to low sales due to several factors, reported the municipal Secretary of Economy and Tourism, Jaime Raúl Oropeza Casas.
However, he said that 3,000 new establishments continue to operate this year, because the city council speeds up the procedures.
He considered the balance of open businesses positive, most of which are located in the area of the Historical Center of Pueblawhere there is always the option of finding premises.
He explained that the lowering of curtains in businesses in the capital of Puebla responds mainly to natural life cycles of the projects, personal decisions, the sale of properties or the advanced age of the owners.
At the same time, he clarified that the agency has no record of formal closures resulting from extortion or excessive increases in rental costs.
No cases of complaints
Oropeza Casas said that the city council is not aware of any complaints to the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) for any situation to the detriment of tenants.
He indicated that the businessmen have open communication with the municipal government to report any risk situation they present, in order to proceed with the security areas.
He reiterated that at least in the central area there are no cases of extortion to the detriment of commerce, since there is a police deployment to deal with any emergency situation.
He considered it important that tenants report any criminal act that affects them, but it is important that there be the corresponding complaint to open an investigation.
He mentioned that there may be attempts through telephone calls and not in person, which is why in many cases they do not proceed, because the tenants know how to act to avoid being victims.
The municipal official recommended not responding to these calls, even if they refer to personal information, since criminals take advantage of them to seek to carry out extortion.
