Last week, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man after he aimed a cap gun out of his car window, found no evidence of a reported road rage assault and advised a homeowner on how to keep raccoons from going under their deck.

The following incidents occurred between Monday, Oct. 26, and Sunday, Nov. 1.

A driver on Colorado Highway 9 north of Silverthorne claimed another driver sideswiped his vehicle during a road rage incident Oct. 28, causing damage to his car. The driver said the other man drove away but then returned to the scene, punched him in the face and threw his phone into the river. Deputies investigating spoke to the suspect driver, who denied all accusation and permitted a search of his vehicle. Deputies could not corroborate any of the allegations or establish probable cause for assault or theft. The Colorado State Patrol responded and filed a report for the accident, and the Sheriff’s Office took a report for the alleged assault.

Animal control officers responded Oct. 28 to a home in unincorporated Silverthorne where the owner reported seeing four raccoons repeatedly entering and leaving the space under his deck. Officers inspected the area under the deck but did not find any raccoons or signs of their presence. They gave the homeowner a list of natural DIY solutions he could spray around the deck to deter the raccoons.

Several callers Oct. 30 reported seeing black smoke over the Sky Chutes and Peak 8. Responders investigated and found that a meteor shower was creating the appearance of black jet streams in the sky. They found no fire conditions or evidence of anything striking the ground.

The owner of a horse in unincorporated Silverthorne reported Oct. 30 that a neighbor’s dog frequently entered her property to chase and bark at her horses. Animal control officers spoke to the dog’s owner, who said his dog did visit nearby properties and barked at the horses, but he denied that his dog chased them. Officers told the owner about several options for keeping his dog on his property and warned him to keep it away from the horses.

Near Summit Cove on Oct. 31, a driver reported seeing a man pointing a cap gun out of the window of his car multiple times and making a recoiling gesture, simulating that he was firing the gun. Deputies responded, stopped the suspect vehicle and found the described cap gun inside. The man denied pointing it out of the window or firing it and suggested the other driver might have seen him wave at a friend while holding a banana. Deputies continued investigating, and the man admitted to both pointing and firing the cap gun out of his window. They arrested him on a felony menacing charge, and while his vehicle was getting towed, officers took an inventory of its contents and found several empty beer cans and a banana.

Two residents in the Boreas Pass area reported Nov. 1 that a bear damaged their vehicles overnight. The first vehicle owner found the bear had ripped off his door handles, making it so he could not enter his car, even with the key. He asked for help breaking into his car. The second vehicle owner reported the bear entered her car and wrecked the interior. Deputies responded to take reports for her insurance claims. They did not find the offending bear.
