Buying MCF Safety Belts gives Autoliv a route into fragmented specialist vehicle markets that high-volume plants struggle to serve
Autoliv has completed its purchase of MCF Safety Belts, an Italian maker of seatbelts and restraints for commercial and specialty vehicles, after securing final regulatory approval. The deal takes the safety supplier further into off-road and specialist commercial vehicle segments and gives it a European base for low-volume, high-variant production.
Founded in 1989 in Pancalieri, near Turin, MCF employs around 60 people, serves more than 500 customers and generates annual sales of about €10m (US$11.7m). No price was disclosed.
The business joins Mobility Safety Solutions, the Autoliv unit taking its restraint technology beyond passenger cars. MCF already runs the short, many-variant production specialist vehicles demand, a different model from high-volume car programmes.
Autoliv sees room for cross-selling, new geographies and shared purchasing. MCF will keep its flexible operating model, and its existing managers are expected to stay.
In a statement, Per Lindeberg, Vice President Mobility Safety Solutions, Autoliv, said: “The acquisition of MCF Safety Belts is a clear strategic fit. It strengthens our offerings with capabilities that are close to our core, while giving us faster access to new customers, applications and geographies. MCF’s agility and specialized know-how, combined with Autoliv’s global reach, technology leadership, and safety expertise, create a strong platform for profitable growth and for bringing proven safety solutions to more mobility applications.”
