The African Union Advisory Board Against Corruption (AUABC) will convene the 2026 Annual African Anti-Corruption Dialogue on 9 November 2026 at the Arusha International Conference Centre in Arusha, Tanzania, under the theme “Scaling Up the Promotion of Integrity and Anti-Corruption Actions Across Africa.”
The Dialogue will bring together representatives of African Union Member States, national anti-corruption institutions, civil society organisations, academia, the media, faith-based organisations, traditional leaders, the private sector and other stakeholders to strengthen collective efforts towards preventing and combating corruption across the continent.
The initiative comes against the backdrop of persistent corruption, which continues to undermine sustainable development, weaken public institutions, divert resources from essential services and erode public trust. While Africa has made progress in establishing legal and institutional frameworks, including through the adoption of the African Union Convention on Preventing and Combating Corruption (AUCPCC) in 2003, further efforts are required to translate these commitments into tangible results.
The 2026 Dialogue will emphasise that integrity is fundamental to effective corruption prevention and must extend beyond institutional and legal reforms to become an integral part of everyday life. It will promote a whole-of-society approach, recognising that governments, institutions, communities, families and individuals all have a responsibility to uphold ethical conduct, transparency and accountability.
Particular attention will be given to the role of education, religion, culture, family and technology in strengthening integrity across African societies. Discussions will explore how education systems can embed ethical values and responsible citizenship from an early age; how religious and traditional institutions can promote honesty, justice and accountability; and how families and communities can nurture a culture of integrity among future generations.
The Dialogue will also examine the opportunities offered by digital technologies, including e-governance, blockchain and artificial intelligence, in strengthening transparency, improving public service delivery and supporting the detection and reporting of corrupt practices. Participants will consider the importance of ensuring that these technologies are deployed responsibly, with appropriate safeguards for human rights, privacy and inclusion.
Through keynote addresses, research presentations and high-level panel discussions, participants will exchange experiences, share good practices and identify practical measures to scale up integrity promotion and anti-corruption initiatives. The Dialogue will also highlight the importance of protecting and supporting whistleblowers, anti-corruption activists and other integrity champions.
The 2026 Dialogue seeks to encourage African Union Member States to strengthen national integrity strategies in alignment with the AUCPCC and the aspirations of Agenda 2063, while fostering stronger collaboration among public institutions and non-state actors.
The expected outcomes include a roadmap for scaling up integrity promotion across Africa, a set of continental recommendations for integrating education, religion, culture, family and technology into national anti-corruption strategies, and strengthened partnerships among governments, civil society, communities and other stakeholders.
The Dialogue will be conducted in a hybrid format, providing opportunities for both in-person and virtual participation. The AUABC also calls upon Member States and stakeholders to mobilise public engagement ahead of the event and amplify its messages through community outreach, awareness campaigns and social media.
The African Union Advisory Board Against Corruption reaffirms that the fight against corruption is a collective responsibility requiring sustained commitment at every level of society. Promoting integrity is not simply about preventing wrongdoing; it is about building accountable institutions, strengthening public trust and advancing a continent where ethical leadership and responsible citizenship are the norm.
