Forty second-year business fellows traveled to New York for their business fellows trip.

This October, the Business Fellows program at the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business connected classroom learning to real-world business environments through a three-day trip to New York City. Fellows visited leading firms across finance and accounting, connected with alumni and turned the idea of working in the city into a tangible goal.
Gracie Collins ‘29, a finance and marketing major from Lake Forest, Ill., Alden King ‘29, a finance and marketing major from Chapel Hill, NC., and Anne Alt ‘29, an accounting and economic consulting major from Kansas City, Kan. were three of the Fellows who attended and had the opportunity to learn from professionals in the industries they hope to work in after graduation.
“The business fellows trip was extremely rewarding. I enjoyed getting to learn more about the companies and touring their offices”, said Collins. “The most memorable part was having the opportunity to speak to Elon alumni about the experiences that have shaped their careers as well as ask for advice. Several alumni also explained how their involvement in certain business clubs at Elon helped them to decide what they wanted to do.”
Throughout the three-day trip, Fellows were exposed to a wide range of industries, company cultures, and professional opportunities. Each visit offered a different perspective on what a career in business can look like.
“The fellows trip was an amazing opportunity that provided all of us with an introduction into the world of business and what it would look like working in New York,” King said. “I also had the opportunity to meet with many people who inspired me and showed me where I want to be in life and what I want to do in the future. It was beneficial to see how all of the things that we have learned through the Fellows program would show up in the workforce.”
From learning about daily responsibilities to understanding how companies operate, Fellows gained insight into the expectations and opportunities that await them after graduation. The experience served as a reminder that professional development begins long before entering the workforce.

While each company offered a unique experience, a common theme throughout the trip was the importance of curiosity, adaptability, and building relationships. Professionals emphasized that career paths are rarely straightforward and that success often comes from being open to new opportunities and willing to learn from others.
Advice from alumni and employers:
- Take every opportunity you can to expand your network. Be curious and take initiative.
- Follow up with alumni and professionals you meet; they want and are willing to help you.
- Your initial career path decision does not define the rest of your life. You can shift at any point.
The Business Fellows also have their own advice for future Elon University students considering going on company visits:
- Take every visit seriously; you never know what one conversation or impression could do for you in the future.
- Follow up with every person you talk to during the visits.
- Use this opportunity to ask the questions you want to know; the professionals are there to help and appreciate your curiosity.
