Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar urged Commonwealth partners to de-risk and diversify supply chains through shorter and more reliable routes. He said that more connectivity corridors are beneficial for business. The External Affairs Minister said these things at the Commonwealth Heads of Government and Business Leaders Breakfast Meeting during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2026.
S. “Commonwealth partners also need to reduce risk and diversify. This requires short and reliable supply chains. More connectivity corridors are good for business. Commonwealth partners should do more to increase local distribution,” Jaishankar posted on social media platform ‘X’.
He also stressed on promoting training and capacity building as this provides more options to partners. Referring to the Indian business community spread across the world, the External Affairs Minister described it as an asset for the Commonwealth. “Digital is a game changer as it drives efficiency, good governance and growth,” he said.
S. Jaishankar also said that the International Solar Alliance and the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure can be used for climate action. “Our first responder experiences and HARD activities demonstrate the need for local hubs,” he said. The Secretary of State said skills mobility can be an important focus of the Commonwealth. Trust within the Commonwealth can create business for growth and prosperity.
Earlier on Wednesday, Jaishankar had addressed the Commonwealth Heads of Government Executive Session. He highlighted the importance of digital public infrastructure for good governance and fiscal responsibility. He also talked about India’s recent Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and other ongoing negotiations in this regard.
