Gen Z-led protests in multiple German cities turned violent Saturday, with rioters looting stores and confronting police, as political and fiscal crises unleash a wave of discontent across Europe.
France saw a third weekend of protests, which have also spread to Italy, Belgium, and Albania, driven by what a Belgian politician derided as the “TikTokization” of protests.
The Élysée called a meeting last month with platforms to demand tighter moderation, as protesters of varying political outlooks took to the streets: “One crisis layers on top of the other,” the director of the European Council of Foreign Relations told the BBC, producing algorithmically sorted “tribes,” and “a sense of ‘my crisis is more important than your crisis.’”
