“President Trump will travel to Kansas and Iowa to hold campaign rallies on Sunday, a White House official said, a sharp reversal after the rallies were canceled a day earlier in the two traditionally Republican states, where polls indicate tight races,” The New York Times reported this morning.
“It was the latest turn in the final days of a deeply contentious midterm campaign, with Republican candidates struggling to maintain their edge in a series of red states ahead of voting on Tuesday, and the Trump administration turning to the courts in search of a structural advantage,” the Times noted.
Trump had announced Thursday that he would not travel to Kansas and yesterday said he would cancel a trip to Iowa in favor of televised rallies. Trump maintained that the Republican candidates in those states were doing well and became angry at a question from a reporter about whether he was tired of traveling.
The Cook Political Report with Amy Walter today moved the Kansas governor’s race from “Lean Republican” to “Toss-up” and has listed the Iowa governor’s race as “Lean Democrat.”
The Cook Report has also moved Senate and House races toward the Democrats.
