A Dhaka court today placed Jarika Tasnim Disha, a friend of former Bangladesh Air Force officer KM Tahsif Souri, on a fresh three-day remand in a murder case over his death.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Monzurul Islam passed the order after police sought a seven-day remand for further interrogation, said Additional Public Prosecutor Muhammad Shamsud Doha Sumon.
In a forwarding report submitted to the court, the investigating officer outlined seven grounds for further interrogation, including the need to establish whether Disha and Tahsif had arguments or emotionally charged conversations on the day of the incident.
The report said Disha had told investigators that she visited Nest Restaurant & Bar in Uttara with Tahsif on the night of October 27. She also said she had visited CP Five Star Snacks several times that evening, accompanied Tahsif to a motorcycle garage and travelled to a few other places with him on his motorcycle.
“Disha provided several important pieces of information regarding the incident. However, those details are being kept confidential in the interest of the investigation and are being verified,” the report said.
Investigators alleged that Disha had tactfully avoided answering several questions and remained silent during interrogation.
The investigating officer also said her statements needed to be cross-checked against those of Ahmed Shahriar Reza Dip, another friend of Tahsif who is currently in police custody.
An examination of Tahsif’s mobile phone call records also revealed that he had spoken to Disha several times, the report added.
Investigators also sought to establish whether their relationship had been strained that day or earlier.
The other grounds included uncovering the circumstances surrounding the incident, identifying and arresting other unidentified accused and recovering evidence related to the case.
On November 1, Disha was placed on a four-day remand after police produced her before the court and sought seven days’ remand.
Case documents show that Disha, 19, was arrested from her residence in Kafrul, Dhaka, around 2:00am that day.
Dip, 23, was placed on a four-day remand on October 31 and subsequently granted another three days in police custody yesterday.
On October 31, Tahsif’s father, KM Eneyetul Karim, filed a murder case with Uttarkhan Police Station against unidentified people, alleging that his son had been murdered and his body dumped in a river to conceal the crime.
