A 28-year-old Abbeville woman was killed early Saturday in a two-vehicle crash on La. 343 near Ridge Road in Lafayette Parish, State Police said.
The crash happened shortly after midnight Saturday. Investigators said the woman was driving a 2014 Kia Optima south on La. 343 and slowing for a stop sign when a 2011 Buick LaCrosse traveling behind her struck the rear of her vehicle.
The Kia driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not been released. The Buick driver, identified as 40-year-old Shawnta Davis-Ned, of Rayne, also was not wearing a seat belt but reported no injuries.
State Police said Davis-Ned provided a breath sample that showed her blood alcohol concentration was above the legal limit. She was arrested and booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on counts of vehicular homicide, first-offense driving while impaired, careless operation and failure to wear a seat belt.
Toxicology testing is pending for the Kia driver.
