Penn State’s women’s sports ended October with a bang.
While much of the Penn State athletics world has steadied itself, there was a time when it looked like the Nittany Lions were a sinking ship. Penn State women’s sports, however, have continued to shine in their respective 2026 seasons.
The trend continued as the sun set on another October. Strong performances in women’s soccer, women’s volleyball, women’s hockey, and field hockey defined the week.
Women’s Soccer
On Sunday, the Nittany Lions tied Michigan 2-2 on the road at U-M Soccer Stadium. Lilly Burger scored on a header and Aubrey Kulpa netted her eighth goal of the season.
A few days earlier, No. 23 Penn State shut out Indiana 4-0 at Jeffrey Field, capturing the program’s 550th win and finishing the regular season undefeated at home.
Freshman Emma Johnson scored her first collegiate goal.
Women’s Volleyball
No. 13 Penn State defeated Ohio State 3-1 at Rec Hall on Thursday, earning the program’s 1,500th win. Alexis Stucky and Kennedy Martin both had double-doubles for the Nittany Lions.
On Saturday, the Nittany Lions topped No. 11 Purdue 3-1 at Rec Hall on their annual Senior Night. Martin led the Nittany Lions with 24 kills.
Women’s Ice Hockey
No. 7 Penn State women’s hockey swept its road series against RIT, earning two shutouts and a hat trick from junior forward Abby Stonehouse. The sweep extended Penn State’s winning streak to seven games.
On Friday, No. 7 Penn State won 1-0. Stonehouse scored the lone goal in a four-on-four situation, and goaltender Morgan Stickney recorded the shutout.
Then, on Saturday, the Nittany Lions won 6-0 in an all-around performance. Stonehouse recorded her first career hat trick, and sophomore goaltender Maddy Campbell stopped all 15 shots for the Nittany Lions’ second consecutive shutout of the weekend.
Field Hockey
On Friday, No. 14 Penn State secured a historic 2-0 upset victory over No. 1 Northwestern.
The win marked Penn State’s first victory over a top-ranked team since 2002. The Nittany Lions closed out the regular season with a 12-5 record overall and a 6-2 record in the Big Ten, earning the No. 3 seed in the Big Ten Tournament.
Freshman defender Lilly Holmes added her first goal of the season in the win. Sophomore goalkeeper Aby Deverka also stood out with seven saves.
