The New York State Department of Health is encouraging residents to get flu, COVID and RSV vaccinations.
ALBANY, N.Y. (WNYT)- New York health officials are urging residents to update their flu, COVID-19 and RSV vaccines as respiratory illnesses rise earlier this season.
New York State Health Commissioner James McDonald held a briefing Thursday, Nov. 5, as flu and cold season begins. He urged New Yorkers to get up to date on recommended vaccines for the flu, COVID and RSV.
McDonald said people should get vaccinated at least two weeks before large gatherings or travel. He also said people should stay home if they are sick.
He said the state is seeing higher rates of illnesses this year and earlier than in years past.
The state Health Department also launched a new respiratory virus dashboard tracking cases and hospitalizations for flu, COVID-19 and respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV, across New York.
