New Delhi:

There was massive shopping in markets across the country on the festival of Diwali. A lot of items ranging from gold and silver jewelery to mobiles, TV, clothes, sweets and decorative items were sold. According to traders’ organization Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), this time on Diwali the business in Delhi has crossed the figure of Rs 1 lakh crore. At the same time, the business related to Diwali across the country has crossed Rs 6 lakh crore. CAT estimates that this purchase figure may increase to Rs 7 lakh crore.

CAT has expressed gratitude to the customers who reached the markets for shopping on Diwali. The organization says that this time people shopped in the markets with full enthusiasm. This has provided good support to the business of small and big traders.

Increased demand for indigenous goods

CAT said that this time there has been a significant increase in the demand for indigenous products in the markets. The impact of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s campaign of ‘Vocal for Local’, ‘Self-reliant India’ and adopting Swadeshi has been visible in purchases. Customers gave preference to goods made by local shopkeepers, Indian companies, small industries and artisans. According to the organization, this trade is benefiting the country’s small businessmen, local manufacturers and people involved in handicrafts. This is also giving an opportunity to Indian products to make their place in the market.

There was a lot of purchasing of these goods

This Diwali, there was demand for many types of things in the markets. There was good sale of gold and silver jewellery, silver coins and idols. Apart from this, there was also a good number of people buying mobile phones, LED TV, fridge, washing machine and other electronic items. Crowds of customers were also seen at clothing and fashion shops. There was a lot of purchasing of sarees, suits, kurtas, readymade clothes and children’s wear. At the same time, the demand for earthen lamps, idols of Lakshmi-Ganesh, puja thali, candles, rangoli and decorative lights also increased. Sale of sweets, dry fruits, namkeen, chocolates and gift packs also gave impetus to the business. Along with this, purchase of furniture, kitchen items, home decoration items, toys and gifts also took place. According to CAT, people also showed interest in purchasing vehicles like cars, scooters and motorcycles.

Small businessmen got benefits

CAT says that the benefits of festive shopping are not limited only to big shopkeepers. This also provides earning opportunity to street vendors, small traders, artisans, women entrepreneurs and small industries. Apart from this, transport businessmen who transport goods, packaging companies, delivery services and people associated with logistics also get work. In this way, increased shopping in the markets during festivals creates employment and earning opportunities in many sectors.

Markets will remain bright till Chhath Puja

According to CAT, the process of shopping in the markets is expected to continue even after Diwali. Due to festivals like Annakoot, Bhaiya Dooj, Chhath Puja, Tulsi Vivah and Guru Nanak Jayanti on 24th November, there may be movement of customers in the markets. The organization believes that the demand for puja materials, fruits, sweets, clothes, gifts and decoration items will increase in the coming festivals. Due to this, traders are hopeful of good sales even after Diwali.
