A 69-year-old man was killed at a Walgreens at South Claiborne and Napoleon avenues early Sunday morning in what New Orleans police are investigating as a homicide.
Officers were called just before 7 a.m. to the store in the 4400 block of South Claiborne, where they found a man lying on the ground with multiple bruises and bleeding from the head. Paramedics pronounced the man dead on scene, according to the New Orleans Police Department.
Police did not say how the man was killed, but the case was classified as a homicide at around 9 a.m.
Investigators taped off a portion of the Walgreens parking lot that morning, placing roughly 20 evidence markers around the lot and on the sidewalk leading into the store, some near crushed prescription pill bottles lying on the pavement.

The Orleans Parish Coroner will determine the exact cause of death and publicly identify the victim once the family is notified, police said. The investigation is ongoing.
The man’s killing was the second reported in New Orleans Sunday morning. Just hours earlier, a woman was found shot dead in a Little Woods backyard.
