MakeMyTrip Friday announced the acquisition of a majority stake in Bengaluru-based ride-pooling platform Quick Ride, expanding its ground transportation business.

The online travel company said the acquisition gives it an entry into the shared mobility segment, complementing its existing ground transport offerings, which include bus bookings through redBus and intercity car rentals through Savaari. MakeMyTrip did not say how much it invested in Quick Ride, or its precise ownership, beyond now holding a majority share.

Quick Ride connects commuters traveling along similar routes, allowing them to share rides and split commuting costs. The platform also works with corporates, IT parks and business campuses, giving it access to a customer base beyond individual travelers.
