Kymera readies eczema drug trial results, sees potential Dupixent rival

Over the past decade, Sanofi and Regeneron’s Dupixent has become the top-selling drug in immunology, bringing in tens of billions in revenue while transforming outcomes for the 1.4 million patients currently on the therapy for conditions including eczema, asthma, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. But investors and doctors are intensely following an experimental therapy positioned to rival the pharma blockbuster, with results from a key study fast approaching.

Massachusetts biotech Kymera Therapeutics plans to announce data from a mid-stage clinical trial of its lead asset, KT-621, in eczema before the end of the year. Market analysts for the investment bank Jefferies, using common shorthand for immunology and inflammatory disorders, have called the upcoming results “one of the most impactful I&I readouts this year.”

Success (or failure) could have major consequences for Kymera, its growing list of competitors, and the millions of people who live with eczema in the United States. The results could also bolster or dampen the biotech’s aspirations to treat a broader class of immunological diseases with its drug, including chronic spontaneous urticaria and asthma. Analysts forecast that the drug’s sales could reach nearly $4 billion by 2035, including more than $3 billion in eczema revenue, according to Visible Alpha.
