John Travolta will be honored with a lifetime achievement award at the upcoming Turin Film Festival in Turin. The iconic actor’s directorial debut, “Propeller One-Way Night Coach,” will get its second international festival screening there after premiering out-of-competition at the Cannes Film Festival in May.
The Torino Film Festival, which is Italy’s preeminent event for young directors and indie cinema, underlined that Travolta’s filmography comprises a robust representation of standout movies in recent Hollywood history, spanning “from ‘Saturday Night Fever’ to ‘Grease,’ ‘Urban Cowboy,’ ‘Pulp Fiction,’ ‘Get Shorty,’ ‘Face/Off,’ and ‘Hairspray,’” according to a statement.
“Thanks to his charisma, the characters he has played have come off the silver screen and revolutionized our habits, our gestures, our hairstyles, the way we walk,” Torino fest artistic director Giulio Base said. “He has portrayed the restlessness and desires of entire generations, spanning eras and genres with the power of a champion. For decades, the talent of the performer and the greatness of the myth have coexisted in him.”
Adapted from Travolta’s children’s book published in 1997, “Propeller One-Way Night Coach” has been streaming on Apple TV since May 29. The official logline reads: “Set in the golden age of aviation, a young airplane enthusiast, Jeff, and his mother set off on a one-way cross country odyssey to Hollywood, which transforms a simple flight into the trip of a lifetime. Between airline meals, charming flight attendants, unexpected stopovers, larger-than-life passengers, and a thrilling glimpse at first class, the journey unfolds in moments both magical and unexpected, charting the course for the boy’s future.”
The 44th edition of the Torino Film Festival — which is the third headed by Base — will take place in Turin from Nov. 24 to Dec. 2.
