Jimmy Kimmel has mocked Donald Trump’s latest proclamation designating the Oval Office a landmark.
Trump, 80, renovated the president’s office with countless golden tchotchkes and adornments. The decor prompted Barack Obama to say during a midterm rally speech that the executive mansion now looks “like Saddam Hussein opened a Cheesecake Factory.”
Seemingly in response, Trump held a ceremony Thursday afternoon — two days after Republicans suffered crushing midterm losses — declaring both the Oval Office and the White House Cabinet Room national monuments.
Kimmel, 58, addressed Trump’s declaration during his Thursday night monologue, referring to the president as “Tacky-O” and saying: “Trump also signed his first proclamation since the blood bath on Tuesday and it is to turn the Oval Office into a national monument so that no future president can remove any of his crap.
“That’s right. His historic Diet Coke button will be preserved for many generations to come.”
“He turned the Oval Office into the gift shop at the Liberace Museum,” Kimmel continued. “And now he wants to keep it like that forever. He doesn’t want anyone to change it – ever. Why do this now? Why do this right after the midterms?”
Kimmel then floated his theory for why Trump took these actions, saying, “Maybe he’s planning to leave sooner than we think?”
After the audience’s audible reaction, Kimmel delivered his two-word verdict on Trump’s latest move, calling his landmark designation more of a “skid mark.”
“And let me tell you something, buddy,” Kimmel said. “On January 20th, 2029, we are going to yank that crap down and throw it out faster than Melania moves back to New York.”

During Thursday’s announcement, Trump referred to an executive order placed on the Resolute Desk as he said the Oval Office “will not be allowed to be touched by anybody, destroyed, ripped down by stupid people in order to build something in a slightly different shape.”
During his second term, the 80-year-old president has transformed the Oval Office, perhaps more extensively than any other modern president. He has filled the room with gold accents, including appliqués, cherubs and urns, and lined the walls with framed portraits. Outside the entrance, he has added a sign in gold cursive lettering that reads “The Oval Office.”

Kimmel’s latest dig comes just days after he addressed the midterm results directly, saying during Tuesday night’s monologue: “What we do know for sure is that Democrats have officially taken the House. Thanks to President Trump. Blob Vila flipped another House! The blue wave made landfall, and now the Red Wedding begins.”
The Red Wedding is a reference to an infamous Game of Thrones scene where several of the show’s heroes were brutally massacred.
