World famous economist at Adani Foundation’s program ‘Aristotle-Confucius Symposium 2026’ Prof. Jeffery Sachs It has been estimated that India can become the world’s largest economy by the year 2100. He called it the return of the multipolar world order. Addressing a symposium organized in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, he said that by the end of this century, India’s population could be almost double that of China.
He estimated that about three-fourths of the world’s population could live in Asia and Africa. According to Sachs, by 2100 the population of Africa will be about 30% of the total world population, while the population of Asia may be slightly less than half.
India’s share in the global economy
Professor Jeffrey Sachs of Columbia University said that India’s share in global production is continuously increasing. According to him, India’s share in the total world production was 5.2% in 2000, which will increase to 8.5% in 2026. It is estimated that by 2100 this share may reach 15.1%.
According to the data presented at the World Symposium of Adani Foundation, India’s share in global production in 2026 is 8.5%, China’s 21.3%, America’s 14.6% and Europe’s 15.9%.
India’s share is estimated to be 13.1% by 2050
According to Sachs estimates, India’s share in global production may increase to 13.1% by 2050. In the same period, China’s share is estimated to be 17.9%, America’s 10.1% and Europe’s 11.1%.
India’s share is estimated to reach 15.1% by 2100. Whereas China’s share can be 8%, America’s 6.6% and Europe’s 6.3%. Based on these estimates, India will be at the forefront among these four major economies.
World’s economic axis again towards Asia
According to statistics, Asia’s share in world production has reached 48.4%. Sachs described the changing balance in the global economy as the return of a multi-polar world order.

Historical data shows that in 1700, China’s share in global production was 22.3% and India’s 20%. The influence of Western economies increased during the industrial era. In 1950, America’s share was 27.3% and Europe’s 28.6%, while the share of China and India had come down to 4.8% and 4.2% respectively.
Now in the 21st century, the balance of global economic power is expected to shift towards Asia again.
