Epic is the largest electronic health records vendor in the United States. Its data systems, used by a majority of large health systems, hold the health information of  some 8 in10 Americans.

Epic’s increasing market dominance has coincided with complaints that the company’s actions make it difficult for hospitals to implement non-Epic technology tools.
