Dakar 2026 an “opportunity for people to appreciate the diversity of cultures”
For Kipchoge, the Games will also provide the world with a glimpse of the vibrancy, energy and colours of Senegal and Africa.
“Africa is a young and energetic continent,” he said.
“What excites me is seeing West African and Senegalese culture mix with cultures from around the world.
“It will be a great opportunity for people to discover and appreciate the diversity of cultures across the globe.”
Away from the sport, Kipchoge is excited to experience the Senegalese culture, cuisine and tourist sites, as well as meeting President Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
“I am looking forward to anything actually,” he said.
“Food, tourist places, what has been happening in Senegal, how Senegalese are doing. I am looking forward to see how the young President in Africa is doing.”
As Dakar 2026 officially commences today, Kipchoge has some final words of wisdom for the young athletes set to compete at the Games.
“My message is that discipline is the key,” he added.
“And above all you young people, it’s time to fight for the space. And this space actually is happening in Dakar.
“Let us fight for the space, try to actually show your talent. Prove it, fight with all your sweat and blood, and remember, enjoy the sport.”
