YAOUNDE, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) — The premiere of “Kung Fu Dream,” a documentary highlighting China-Africa cultural and people-to-people exchanges, was held in Yaounde, the capital of Cameroon, on Friday, drawing an audience of nearly 300 people.

In his remarks, Martin Valere Oyono Bitounou, a representative of the Cameroonian Ministry of Arts and Culture, said the film showcased the vitality of Africa-China cultural exchanges. The documentary illustrated that while cultural differences might seem to erect borders, human encounters could build bridges, he noted.

“Cameroon and China have every reason to continue deepening cultural exchanges, allowing the two peoples to better understand each other, share experiences and jointly build a new future,” he said.

Rodrigue Tene Taling, the film’s director and lead actor who also serves as executive director of the Center for African Film and Television at the Institute of African Studies of Zhejiang Normal University, said he hoped to convey a core belief through the film that kung fu was not merely a martial art, but a common language that fostered encounters, mutual respect and friendly exchanges among people of all nations.

Co-produced by the Institute of African Studies of Zhejiang Normal University and Zhejiang Zhuowei Film and Television Culture Co., Ltd., “Kung Fu Dream” is based on a true story. It chronicles the journey of a Cameroonian youth, Rodrigue Tene Taling, who traveled across the globe to China to learn martial arts and persistently pursue his dream. ■
