Increase in dearness allowance may be announced on Wednesday
The Union Cabinet meeting may be held on Wednesday. If a meeting is held then it is possible that an increase in dearness allowance may be announced. Cabinet meetings usually take place on Wednesdays.
The central government makes many major announcements for different sectors after the weekly cabinet meetings. Since AND (Dearness Allowance) and DR (Dearness Relief) impact more than one crore central government employees and pensioners, so the government often announces increases only after the cabinet meeting. Therefore, there is a possibility that the government may announce it in the next cabinet meeting, which may be held on October 28. However, it is not necessary that the increase in dearness allowance be announced in the cabinet meeting itself. The Department of Expenditure of the Finance Ministry can also announce this.
Allowance will be applicable from July
If increase in dearness allowance is announced then the employees will get its benefit from July. Even though it is being announced in October. But benefits will be given only as per the rules.
Manjit Singh Patel, President, All India New Pension Scheme Employees Federation (AINPSEF) said, “The new DA rate will be applicable for the period July-December 2026. If the government announces it this month, then the employees will get the arrears of July-October along with the salary at the end of November. This is because the salary is calculated from the 15th of one month to the 15th of the next month.”
How much can the increase be?
This time the dearness allowance of central employees may increase by 3 to 4 percent. DA will be increased keeping in mind the average retail inflation for July 2025-June 2026. Applying average inflation to the DA calculation formula, the estimated DA increase could range from 3 to 4 percent. If it increases by 3 percent then it will become 63 percent. At the same time, if it increases by 4 percent, it will increase to 64 percent.
