The car involved in a fiery crash which killed two 16-year-old boys in Bullsbrook in Perth’s north-east on Saturday night was stolen, the police commissioner has said.

Police said the teenagers were the driver and passenger of a grey BMW 3 Series sedan that was travelling north on Railway Parade when it left the road, struck several trees and caught fire at around 10:20pm.

The two boys died at the scene.

WA Police Commissioner Col Blanch said the car was reported stolen last night.

“In no way does that lessen the tragedy that’s occurred here,” Commissioner Blanch said.

“This breaks all of our hearts to know that two 16-year-old boys have died from a car accident.

“[It’s] a tragedy for our community, a tragedy for the parents and families involved and for first responders … it’s something that will be stuck in their brain for some time.”

Passengers survive

Two 17-year-old boys, who were in the back seat, were taken to Royal Perth Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

“It’s amazing that anyone walked away from that crash and we know that the crash also involved a fire that started in the brush where it crashed, so it could have been even worse,” Commissioner Blanch said.

“One can only imagine, given the state of the car — I believe it was on its roof, [it] had rolled over — [that] speed was almost certainly a factor.”

He said it was too early to say whether the two passengers would face charges.

Major crash investigators are examining the scene and have appealed to witnesses, or anyone with dash-cam, CCTV, or mobile phone footage related to the crash, to contact Crime Stoppers.
