BorgWarner has won three electric motor contracts in China spanning hybrid, range-extended and battery-electric vehicles, with production starting in 2027 and 2028. One is its first motor programme with the Chinese joint venture of a leading global automaker, for a range-extender platform.

That deal covers stators and rotors for a high-voltage hairpin P1 motor rated at 115kW, against 100kW for its predecessor, which boosts acceleration and generates power in range-extender mode. Covering three powertrain types spreads BorgWarner’s exposure across China’s electrified vehicle mix.

A major Chinese new energy vehicle maker has kept BorgWarner on its next SUV platforms, with main drive motor parts for a 715V system delivering 300kW and 495Nm. The third award, from an electric drive system supplier, is a 130kW P2 hybrid motor with BorgWarner’s compact continuous-wave S-winding, for vehicles sold worldwide.

In a statement, Isabelle McKenzie, Vice President of BorgWarner and President and General Manager of PowerDrive Systems, said: “We are pleased to establish and expand our eMotor business with customers across China. The breadth of these programs demonstrates our ability to address diverse application requirements through strong product performance, cost optimization and localized manufacturing. With our established engineering and production footprint in China, we are well positioned to support customers as they develop their next generation of electrified vehicles.”
