Holding on to inverter supply through a model changeover matters as automakers choose suppliers for their next electric platforms
BorgWarner has won a contract to supply its latest high-voltage traction inverter for future battery-electric vehicle programmes at a major global automaker it already supplies with inverters. The award carries that relationship into the customer’s next vehicle generation, keeping BorgWarner in place as incumbent supplier through a model changeover.
The inverter turns direct current from the battery into alternating current for the motor, making it central to how well a vehicle uses its stored energy. BorgWarner’s new platform combines its latest power modules with a simplified architecture, revised manufacturing methods and a compact layout, which it says cut cost and ease packaging.
The contract is the fourth BorgWarner has announced on 29 October 2026, following turbocharger, engine control and aluminium-wire motor awards. Together they show the supplier still winning combustion business while holding on to electric drive work with existing customers.
In a statement, Isabelle McKenzie, Vice President of BorgWarner and President and General Manager of PowerDrive Systems, said: “This award reflects the confidence customers place in BorgWarner’s power electronics expertise and our ability to deliver innovative, high-performance electrification solutions. As automakers continue to expand their electric vehicle portfolios, we remain committed to helping them achieve greater efficiency, performance and scalability through advanced inverter technologies.”
