Bobby Flay said a celebrity friend helped him with his relationship with Brooke Williamson.
Flay mentioned the mystery BFF — who was hinted to be Scarlett Johansson — told him to give Williamson a commitment ring.
Flay and Williamson are both chefs, and have been together since March 2025.
Bobby Flay is committed to Brooke Williamsonbut he does not necessarily want to get married again.
In a interview in the new issue of PEOPLEavailable now for PEOPLE VIP subscribers in the PEOPLE app, the culinary legend said that he heeded the advice of his “gigantic movie star” best friend when it came to his relationship with fellow chef Williamson after three failed marriages. (Flay, 61, was previously married to Debra Ponzek from 1991 to 1993, Kate Connelly from 1995 to 1998, and Stephanie March from 2005 to 2015. He shares daughter Sophie30, with Connelly.)
“I’m not going to drop any names, but she’s a very good friend of mine,” Flay said of his aforementioned celebrity pal. “We were having dinner, and I was telling her that I was totally falling for somebody that I work with and that I’m frustrated because I’m not going to go there.”
Flay, who met Williamson, 48, on the show Supermarket Stakeout in 2020, continued, “She said that it would be like if she had a relationship with someone that she did a movie with. It happens all the time, and it’s totally fine.”
The friend also told Flay that Williamson might not want to get married again either, so he should take that pressure off the table. (Williamson was married to Nick Roberts from 2007 until their separation in 2022. They share son Hudson, 18.)
“One of the tips I got from my movie-star friend is that getting married might not be important to her,” Flay told Entertainment Weekly‘s sister site PEOPLE. “She’s like, ‘I just want a big ring and a big party.’ And I was like, ‘I love that idea because my marriages have not lasted, unfortunately.'”
Williamson sat beside Flay for the interview, and insisted, “I don’t need to fall into that category.”
“The most important thing is I need to make sure that Brooke feels like she’s committed to,” Flay said, sharing why he gave Williamson a diamond commitment ring last year.
Williamson continued, “He said just because I don’t feel the need to get married or want to get married again doesn’t mean that you don’t deserve the big, beautiful ring that comes along with it. So it was great advice, whoever gave him that advice.”
When pressed to reveal who the secret celebrity friend was, PEOPLE asked, “Does she happen to be married to Colin Jost?”
Flay put his head in his hands before stating, “No confirmation.”
“Zero confirmation,” Williamson added.
SNL star Jost is married to Scarlett Johanssonwith whom he shares son Cosmo, 5. (She also has a daughter, Rose, 12, with ex-husband Romain Dauriac.) Johansson and Flay have been friends for many years, and are reportedly neighbors in New York.

Flay and Williamson were friends for a few years before confirming their romance in March 2025. As for Flay’s hesitation to date someone within their industry, Top Chef winner Williamson said she “didn’t really see the major conflict of interest.”
“There were only situations where it made sense to me,” Williamson told PEOPLE, to which Flay added, “I wanted people to respect her for who she is as a chef and as a talent. You don’t want to give people opportunity to come after you for no reason. But ultimately, who cares? The important thing is that you’re happy and you’re with the person you want to be with. That’s how I came to terms with it.”
