Powers, Jarrett and La Rue set up a video call for Oct. 28, the messages showed.

The day of the call, Mitchell’s office sent the DOJ a letter saying the Maricopa County Elections Department would not credential Levin to be an election monitor for any future election.

Levin did not immediately reply to a request for comment.

“The Department asks that you confirm in writing that the DOJ will not send any election monitors to Maricopa County whom the DOJ knows has a felony conviction of any kind, or a conviction for any election-related criminal offense, in any state in the Union,” La Rue said.

“Because of the necessity of election integrity, as well as the Department’s desire to foster trust in elections, this is a condition that the Department requires,” he added.
