A mass production order for the A121 radar shows Acconeer turning consumer sensing technology into automotive revenue
Swedish radar specialist Acconeer has won a US$520,000 order for its A121 radar sensor from a Japanese distributor with a strong automotive presence, for use in series vehicle production. Deliveries are due in the first half of 2027, and the firm disclosed the deal under the EU Market Abuse Regulation as price-sensitive information.
The A121 is a pulsed coherent radar, and Acconeer’s 60 GHz sensors pair low power consumption with high precision in a component of just 28 mm². They handle detection, distance measurement and motion sensing, with uses ranging from smartphones and wearables to drones, robots, healthcare and vehicles.
Acconeer’s business model centres on selling hardware to consumer electronics manufacturers, so a mass production automotive order broadens its customer base. Smaller orders arrive regularly but go unannounced because they are not judged to affect the share price, so the disclosure signals that Acconeer regards this one as material.
Automotive demand is now lifting volumes across the company’s sensor range. In a statement, Ted Hansson, Chief Executive, said: “We are seeing strong growth within the automotive industry, driven both by our new A212 sensor – for which deliveries quadrupled in the third quarter compared to the previous quarter – and by our established A121 sensor, with volumes increasing as new models and customers are launched.”
