Customers of Sky’s broadband-based Sky Glass and Sky Stream pay TV streaming devices and service will be pleased to learn that the provider has expanded their Real Time feature to work across more channels. The feature is designed to improve the experience of watching live content online by “reducing latency [delay time] between the live action and what viewers see on screen“.

Just to recap. Broadcast lag (latency) in live online TV sport streaming has long been a problem. This typically causes streamed content to display a few seconds behind the action itself, which in some cases can even stretch into the tens of seconds – somebody listening via the radio or watching the live action via a Terrestrial Digital TV (DTV) channel may hear or see a key event take place before those viewing an online stream.

NOTE: The latency times of your home network and broadband provider can also have a tiny impact on the streaming delay.

The delay this creates is the product of various aspects of how live video content must be processed / compressed, cached and redistributed over modern digital networks. Sky’s Real Time solution DOES NOT solve this problem, but it does significantly shrink the delay to make it less of an annoyance.

Regular readers might recall that when the enhancement first launched in June 2026 it was initially limited to a select few BBC and ITV channels, before later expanding to cover Sky Sports Football, Sky Sports+ and Sky Sports Premier League etc. But all this changed on Friday after Sky’s community forum team revealed that they were “expanding Real Time viewing to all Sky Sports channels on Sky Glass and Sky Streamhelping you get even closer to the live action.”
