On its third-quarter 2026 earnings call, held on Nov. 5, 2026, Puma (NASDAQ:PBYI) reported total revenue of $55.1 million for the quarter. For long-term investors, the business is shifting focus toward clinical drug development while managing international revenue headwinds. Three things management said stand out.
1. Debt Payoff Leaves Balance Sheet Unencumbered
Puma cleared its remaining loan balance to investment firm Athyrium during the second quarter. The payoff frees up operating cash flow and leaves the business with $108.5 million in cash, cash equivalents, and marketable securities to support research and development.
During Q2 2026, we made our final quarterly principal loan payment of $11.1 million related to our obligation with Athyrium. As a result, Puma is now debt-free.

2. Generic Competition in China Triggers Royalty Rate Cut
Puma recorded a $2.1 million cumulative reduction to Q3 2026 royalty revenue after generic versions of NERLYNX, its prescription breast cancer drug, gained market share in China. Management lowered full-year royalty guidance to a range of $18 million to $19 million as a lower contractual royalty rate takes effect.
In October of 2026, the company received new third-party market data indicating that the market share of generic versions of NERLYNX in China reached a specific threshold during 2025.

3. Breast Cancer Trial Data Supports Phase III Advancement
Interim results from the company’s ALISCA-Breast1 trial of alisertib, an investigational cancer drug, showed activity in specific biomarker groups. Management plans to engage global health regulators in the first half of 2027 to design a pivotal phase III late-stage clinical study.
Based on our initial analysis of this data, we believe that the data from ALISCA-Breast1 is supportive of a phase III trial of alisertib in patients with HER2-negative, hormone receptor-positive, recurrent, or metastatic breast cancer.

Looking Ahead
Demand for NERLYNX in the U.S. is heading toward a second consecutive year of growth, providing baseline commercial revenue. Management is controlling operating expenses to maintain positive net income for the full year.
The company remains committed to continuing to achieve this positive net income in 2026 and will continue to reduce expenses if needed to achieve this.
