Our verdict, briefly

GoDaddy’s builder suits someone who wants an AI to rough out a site they’ll finish themselves, and who likes the idea of domain, site and support under one login. It suits people who want a predictable bill less well. The low headline prices need a year paid up front, the AI work runs on credits that expire each cycle, and the page doesn’t say whether VAT is included.

From drag-and-drop to Airo

GoDaddy has rebuilt its website builder around Airo, its AI assistant. You describe the business in plain language, any language in fact, and Airo lays out pages and sections, writes starter copy and chooses images. GoDaddy also pitches it for web apps, online stores, directories and dashboards, with a database and logic behind them.

After the first draft you refine it by chatting to Airo or by editing directly. On paid plans, changing text and images doesn’t cost credits, and you can download your site’s code at any time, a useful exit route if you ever move on.

Switch the page to monthly and every plan roughly doubles. A year of Starter costs £89.88 on yearly billing and £179.88 month by month; Professional is £215.88 against £443.88. The free custom domain appears on the yearly versions of the paid plans and drops off when you view monthly prices.

Credits, and how quickly they go

Each plan includes a monthly batch of AI credits that pays for Airo’s building work: 50 free, then 150, 300 and 750. GoDaddy’s FAQ says credits expire at the end of each billing cycle and don’t carry over. If you run out, you buy more or wait for the next cycle.

The pricing page doesn’t say how many credits a typical site uses. It does recommend starting from one of GoDaddy’s templates to save credits, so a build from a blank prompt presumably uses more. Plan big changes for early in a cycle and keep small text fixes to the manual editor, which costs nothing.

The free plan is a trial in disguise

Signing up needs no card, and you can build as many preview sites and apps as your 50 monthly credits allow. What you can’t do is go live: GoDaddy’s UK guide to building with Airo says you’ll need a paid plan to publish. Treat it as a test drive of the builder, not as a free website.

Using it for a small business

For a café, a mobile hairdresser or a cleaning firm, Professional is the plan with the business tools: online payments and deposits, appointment bookings, a product catalogue, and connectors for Facebook, Instagram, Google Business Profile and Mailchimp. Starter publishes one site and can take money through shared payment links and QR codes, but bookings aren’t on its feature list.

Support runs 24/7 by phone and chat. Ultimate adds priority help and a free 30-minute session with an expert to get you started.

Two things to check first. GoDaddy lists “Remove Airo branding” as coming soon on Professional and Ultimate, which suggests it can’t be removed yet; ask before you buy if that matters to you. And VAT: GoDaddy’s UK help centre says customers with a validated VAT number may be exempt from tax on eligible purchases, while a missing or invalid number means tax is charged. Look at the basket total, not the plan card.

Like any builder, Airo won’t know your company’s legal details. If you trade as a limited company, the site has to show your registered name, number and office, and you’ll be adding them yourself; our guide to what a company website must show lists them.

What GoDaddy does well

Domain, hosting, site and support in one account is genuinely convenient, especially if your domain is already registered there. Airo gets you from nothing to a working draft fast, and it will also attempt app-like projects, such as a business directory, that go beyond a set of pages. The code download, and GitHub sync on Ultimate, mean you aren’t locked in. And phone support around the clock is useful when a site problem turns up at 9pm.

Where it falls short

Credits make the real cost hard to predict. The prices worth quoting need twelve months paid at once. Removing the Airo branding is still listed as coming soon. And as with any AI that writes your copy, you need to read every line before it goes live, because an AI builder can fill gaps with claims you never made. Our guide to AI website builders covers what to look for.

The built-for-you alternative

If prompting and tweaking isn’t how you want to spend an afternoon, ContractorUK Websites, which we run, takes a different approach: you give us a few lines about the business or your CV, and we build the whole WordPress site, usually inside ten minutes. Later changes go through our AI builder in plain English, from an allowance included in the plan, or you click into a page and type. It’s £49 a month including VAT with no contract, and the domain for the first year is registered in your business’s name. Try the first build for 7 days free, without a card; after that it’s £49 a month including VAT.

We set the two out side by side in ContractorUK vs GoDaddy. For the wider field, see our shortlist of the best website builders in the UK.

Should you choose GoDaddy’s builder?

Choose it if you want AI to do the first draft, you’ll finish the site yourself, and you’re happy to pay a year ahead to get the £7.49 or £17.99 price. A trader who needs online bookings should budget for Professional at £215.88 a year, before any VAT. If managing credits sounds like a chore, or you’d rather someone else did the building, it isn’t the right tool.

Questions

Can I publish a website free with GoDaddy?

Not at the moment. The free plan gives you 50 AI credits a month to build and preview sites, but GoDaddy’s own UK guide says you need to upgrade to a paid plan to publish.

What are GoDaddy AI credits?

They’re the allowance that pays for Airo’s building work: 150 a month on Starter, 300 on Professional and 750 on Ultimate. GoDaddy says they expire at the end of each billing cycle and don’t roll over. Editing text and images on a paid plan doesn’t use them.

Does GoDaddy Website Builder include a domain?

The paid plans list a free custom domain when you pay yearly; the monthly versions of the plans on the same page don’t show it. You can also connect a domain you already own to any published project.

Are GoDaddy UK prices inclusive of VAT?

The builder page doesn’t say. GoDaddy’s UK help centre explains that a validated VAT number can exempt eligible purchases from tax, and that tax is charged where the number is missing or invalid. Check the basket total before you pay.
