Muhurat Trading 2026: Investors consider the Muhurta trading in the stock market on the occasion of Diwali as an auspicious beginning. On this day investors buy shares at the beginning of the new year. But is the market always buzzing on Muhurta trading days? The statistics of the last 10 years show that this is not so. However, on most occasions Sensex and Nifty have given happiness to investors. If we look at the data from 2016 to 2025, in the last 10 Muhurat trading sessions, Sensex and Nifty closed with gains 8 times, whereas both Sensex and Nifty closed with a decline only 2 times.

Investors suffered losses in 2016 and 2017

In the last 10 years, only 2016 and 2017 were the years when Sensex and Nifty closed in the red during Muhurta trading. In 2016, Nifty closed down by 0.14 percent and Sensex by 0.04 percent. At the same time, the decline in 2017 was slightly more. This year, a weakness of 0.63 percent was recorded in Nifty and 0.59 percent in Sensex. After this, for 8 consecutive years both the major indices registered gains on Muhurta trading days. In 2018, Nifty rose 0.65 percent and Sensex rose 0.70 percent. Does muhurat trading indicate the trend of the entire year?

In Muhurat trading, the rise or fall of the market does not guarantee the performance of the next entire year. During this period, trading hours are limited and the trading volume may also be less than on normal days. Therefore, instead of buying shares only on the basis of auspicious time, investors should keep in mind the company’s fundamentals, valuation and their investment potential.
