Silver entrepreneurship: five applications of AI to boost a business

Artificial intelligence (AI) is opening up new possibilities for business, but how can entrepreneurs take advantage of it to boost their businesses? Artificial intelligence (AI) is opening up new possibilities for business, but how can entrepreneurs take advantage of it to boost their businesses? In Peru, more than 2 million people in this age group undertake or work on their own, according to the Permanent National Employment Survey 2025 of the Ministry of Labor and Employment Promotion (MTPE).

For them, incorporating these tools can help optimize the management of their businesses, improve customer service and identify new growth opportunities.

From creating content to promote your products to organizing information, exploring business ideas or streamlining administrative tasks, AI offers practical applications that can be adapted to different areas, without requiring advanced knowledge of technology.

“Artificial intelligence can generate uncertainty because it is a technology that changes rapidly and there is a fear that it will replace certain capabilities. However, for a 50+ entrepreneur it also represents an opportunity to value everything they have learned. Experience, knowledge of a sector and the relationship with clients can be enhanced when combined with new technologies,” explains Elizabeth Gómez, head of Strategic Projects at the Universidad del Pacífico.

Learning between generations

Incorporating AI can also foster cross-generational collaboration. While young people can contribute knowledge about digital platforms and automation, professionals aged 50 and over contribute with experience in the sector, customer knowledge and contact networks. The combination of these strengths can generate new opportunities for entrepreneurship.

“Young people can bring new tools and ways of working, but also find in people over 50 market knowledge and learning that is not acquired quickly. Innovation can arise when different generations share what they know,” adds Gómez.

In line with this scenario, the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy (ENIA) 2026-2030 includes capacity development, innovation and entrepreneurship among its lines of action. From this, Gómez identifies five ways in which silver entrepreneurs can take advantage of AI to boost their businesses:

1. Convert experience into a business idea: rely on AI to identify skills or trades that can be converted into services, advice or training, and define how to offer them to the market.

2. Know your potential clients better: use AI tools to organize information, identify needs and explore different consumer profiles.

3. Save time on day-to-day tasks: rely on AI to write texts, respond to clients, organize information and prepare commercial proposals or work materials.

4. Find new ways to communicate what you know: transform knowledge accumulated over years into content, courses, tutorials or specialized services.

5. Work with other generations (intergenerationality): combine business experience with technological knowledge to test new ideas and solutions.

Thus, the conversation about artificial intelligence after 50 can go beyond the ability to adapt to a new technology. For this generation, which already has an important participation in entrepreneurship and self-employment, “the challenge is to discover what new possibilities appear when experience meets tools that allow increasing productivity, testing faster and reaching new audiences,” concluded Gómez.
