Florida Gators legend Tim Tebow made it clear how he feels about the Tennessee Vols on Saturday morning on the SEC Network.

The Vols are set to take on the Kentucky Wildcats on Saturday night in a game that could eliminate Tennessee from the College Football Playoff conversation.

Despite Tennessee being on the College Football Playoff bubble right now, Tebow thinks the Vols can beat any team in the country — as long as sophomore quarterback George MacIntyre takes a step forward.

“When you look at this team, they’ve got one of the best defenses in the country — perhaps the best defense,” said Tebow. “They’ve got an elite running game led by DeSean Bishop. You have receivers that are super explosive.

“George MacIntyre at quarterback, he can get it done. He’s got the talent and the ability, but you’ve got to show it with consistency. Against South Carolina, there were too many missed opportunities — especially on third down. … You’ve got to be able to throw with anticipation, on time, and with accuracy. And [the ball is] just behind the receivers. But why is it behind them? Because, in my opinion, George just isn’t being confident and letting it rip.

“He takes one extra hitch, and because of that, the ball is tipped. That’s as good as another turnover (because it happened on third down). If George is able to take those next steps, this Tennessee team could be as good as anyone in the country. But this is the biggest difference: on third down, George MacIntyre’s QBR is 8.2. That is by far the lowest in the SEC. It’s a scale from 0 to 100. 8.2 is not good. If he’s able to get that up and be efficient and get it to some of these playmakers, Tennessee could beat anyone in the country.”

It’s important to remember that MacIntyre is still young — he’s not a finished product — but he’s showing growth each week. He was better against Alabama than he was against Auburn, and he was better against South Carolina than he was against Alabama. We’re seeing him take steps forward each week.

If MacIntyre can make a big jump in November and lead the Vols to a 4-0 month, things could get very interesting (and fun) for Tennessee in the playoff.
