As models are discontinued and some international business units decline, Ford’s prospects of a production recovery before 2030 look slim
Ford built about 4.06 million vehicles in 2025, half of them in the US. Automotive World forecasts that output will fall and then hold flat at around 3.76 million a year between 2026 and 2028 as the Escape, Corsair and Focus end and Changan Ford continues to shrink.
US production is expected to dip to 1.88 million in 2027 before eventually rising to 2.11 million in 2030, helped by the Fathom electric pickup, a new all-electric Escape, a Mustang four-door and Bronco-family models. The latter nameplate’s growth is notable: by 2029-30, it is expected to cover the Bronco and Bronco Sport, the China-only Bronco New Energy, the European Bronco, a Bronco pickup and a Bronco-based Lincoln. Bronco would arguably have enough scope to become a sub-brand in its own right, much as Jeep is for Stellantis.
In terms of overall production up to 2030, Cologne might be Ford’s main concern: it is expected to build less than 30,000 vehicles a year against capacity of 250,000, making closure, sale or some kind of partnership likely.
