PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers women’s soccer alumna Carli Lloyd was inducted into the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame as a member of its Class of 2026 on Thursday, Nov. 5, at Live! Casino & Hotel in Philadelphia.

A native of Delran, New Jersey, Lloyd is one of the most decorated players in women’s soccer history, having won two FIFA Women’s World Cup titles and two Olympic gold medals with the United States Women’s National Team. The former Scarlet Knight was among the honorees recognized for their contributions to the rich history of sports in the Greater Philadelphia region.

Lloyd competed at Rutgers from 2001-04, establishing herself as one of the most accomplished players in program history. A two-time All-American and four-time All-Region selection, she finished her collegiate career as the Scarlet Knights’ all-time leader in goals (50) and points (117). She also set program single-season records with 15 goals and 37 points in 2001.

As a freshman, Lloyd earned the program’s first BIG EAST Rookie of the Year honor and helped Rutgers advance to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 in 2001. She went on to become a two-time All-American, a finalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy in 2002 and the BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year in 2004. Lloyd also helped guide the Scarlet Knights to NCAA Tournament appearances in 2001 and 2003.

Following her collegiate career, Lloyd became one of the most recognizable figures in international soccer. She scored the game-winning goals in the gold medal matches at both the 2008 Beijing Olympics and 2012 London Olympics, helping the United States capture consecutive Olympic titles.

Lloyd delivered one of the most memorable performances in FIFA Women’s World Cup history in 2015, scoring a hat trick in the championship match against Japan to lead the United States to the title. She added another World Cup championship in 2019 and earned FIFA Women’s Player of the Year honors in 2015 and 2016.

A four-time Olympian, Lloyd concluded her international career in 2021 with 316 appearances and 134 goals for the United States. She remains among the most accomplished players in USWNT history.

Lloyd was previously inducted into the Rutgers Athletics Hall of Fame in 2018.
