Abu Dhabi National Oil Company has signed a 10-year liquefied natural gas supply agreement with India’s Gujarat Energy Limited, marking the first sale of gas from the international portfolio of its investment arm, XRG.
Under the agreement, announced Friday, Gujarat Energy will receive up to 4 million tonnes of LNG over a decade, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2028. The total contracted volume represents an average of up to 400,000 tonnes annually if spread evenly across the contract period.
The agreement is ADNOC’s fifth LNG supply deal in India and represents another step in the UAE energy company’s strategy to expand its international natural gas business.
Unlike ADNOC’s traditional LNG exports from the UAE, the new contract will source gas from XRG’s international portfolio, connecting production outside the Gulf with customers in India through ADNOC’s global LNG marketing and trading operations.
The transaction follows the launch of ADNOC’s integrated LNG marketing and trading platform in July 2026, which combines the LNG marketing activities of ADNOC Gas and XRG with the commercial trading capabilities of ADNOC Trading.
The platform is targeting 47 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of marketable LNG by 2035, as ADNOC seeks to establish itself among the world’s largest LNG suppliers. The target represents the combined volume the platform aims to market rather than current production capacity.
The Gujarat Energy agreement follows other Asian supply arrangements concluded through the platform, including deals with Japan’s INPEX and Thailand’s Gulf Group.
In July, ADNOC signed a 15-year agreement to supply INPEX with 1 mtpa of LNG from its Ruwais LNG development, while an October agreement with Gulf Group covers approximately 2 million tonnes of LNG over a multi-year period beginning in 2027.
For Gujarat Energy, the latest agreement will support its gas supply portfolio as the company expands its presence in India’s natural gas market.
Formerly known as Gujarat Gas, Gujarat Energy adopted its new name in May 2026 following a restructuring that combined the businesses of Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation, Gujarat State Petronet and GSPC Energy. The company operates city gas distribution networks and has expanded interests across gas trading, exploration and production, and other energy activities.
The company serves 44 districts across six Indian states through its city gas distribution network, providing natural gas to industrial, commercial and residential customers.
