You can get information related to the purity of gold by looking at some things at the shop itself.
Be sure to check hallmark and HUID number
The most important way to check the purity of gold is to see the hallmark. The purity of gold is confirmed by hallmarking of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). Look for the BIS logo, purity mark and 6 digit Hallmark Unique Identification (HUID) number on gold jewellery. You can also check the information about jewelery by entering this number on BIS Care app. This can tell whether the hallmark is correct or not.
Be sure to get carat information
Gold is available in different purities. 24 karat gold is considered the purest, while jewelry is usually made in 22, 18 or 14 karat. 22 carat gold contains 91.6 percent gold. Therefore, while buying jewellery, look for marks like 22K916, 18K750 or 14K585 on it. This shows the purity of gold.

Gold is a paramagnetic metal. If you bring a strong magnet near gold and it gets attracted towards it, then understand that it is adulterated with iron, nickel or some other metal. Real gold is not attracted towards magnets at all.
Water and Density Test
Fill water in a deep vessel and put your gold jewelery in it. Real gold is heavy, so it will immediately settle to the bottom of water. If the gold floats on water or does not sink completely, it may be fake.
acid test
Put a little nitric acid on the hidden part of the gold by hitting it lightly with a pin. If the part turns green, it is copper or some other cheap metal. Acid has no effect on real gold and its color does not change.
