Modular hardware lets ABB E-mobility and Oreve grow French truck charging sites in step with electric truck volumes
ABB E-mobility will equip 12 new truck charging sites in France for Oreve, adding about 100 charging points and 18MW of capacity on freight corridors by the end of 2028. A modular system arriving from early 2027 can grow sites into 1.2MW hubs, and the first megawatt charging system (MCS) installation is due that year.
The deal extends a three-year relationship that has delivered six sites, among them Vénissieux, a Lyon logistics hub, and Bourg-de-Péage between Valence and Grenoble. ABB E-mobility also supplies cloud-based asset management, live monitoring and remote support.
Sites open with A400 units that share 400kW across two points. The M-Series then adds power cabinets and as many as 24 dispensers with no rebuild of the site’s electrical backbone, so Oreve can expand as truck traffic grows and introduce MCS.
France’s national plan targets about 8,000 truck charging points at 560 motorway rest areas by 2035, roughly 1.6GW in total. Against that, Oreve’s 18MW is a small early slice of the build-out.
In a statement, Bruno Bourguet, President EMEA at ABB E-mobility, said: “Oreve saw early where freight logistics was heading and began building the charging infrastructure to match. Their trust in ABB E-mobility as a partner has allowed us to turn that vision into a scalable solution. Our architecture enables them to expand each site as truck traffic grows, while creating a clear path toward megawatt charging.”
