Mountain CAP of WV, Inc. will receive $83,329 in public funding for crime victim services, according to an October 29 release from Governor Patrick Morrisey’s office. The governor’s office said the program provides a child-friendly facility to coordinate investigative and treatment responses to child abuse and neglect in Upshur and Lewis counties.

Women’s Aid in Crisis, Inc. will receive $600,306 for a program providing emergency shelter, crisis hotlines, outreach and trauma interventions in Barbour, Braxton, Randolph, Tucker, Upshur and Webster counties, according to the governor’s award list.

The Barbour County Commission will receive $38,856. In Randolph County, the Randolph County Children’s Advocacy Center, Inc. will receive $121,808 and the Randolph County Commission will receive $59,430.

The awards are part of 81 grants totaling $17,178,347 through the Victims of Crime Act. The money will help pay for counseling, emergency shelter, advocacy, transportation and other services as victims move through the justice system, the release said. It will support victims of domestic violence, sexual violence, child abuse, elder abuse and other crimes.

“No one should have to face the aftermath of a crime alone,” Morrisey said in the release.

My Buckhannon reported in August that Mountain CAP would receive a separate child advocacy grant to provide forensic interviews, therapy and other services for abused children in Upshur and Lewis counties.

The West Virginia Division of Administrative Services manages the grants through its Justice and Community Services Section.

The governor’s office provides details of all 81 awardsincluding separate grants to some organizations for different projects.
