Infineon has unveiled Aurix RC1, its first RISC-V microcontroller platform, for real-time control in software-defined vehicles and physical AI. The family spans domains on one scalable basis and will appear at electronica in Munich from 10 November 2026, with first-half 2027 sampling.

Central computers and zone controllers are absorbing functions once spread across many control units, so Infineon is folding its Aurix and Traveo T2G lines into one platform. Code written for one domain can then carry over to others, from chassis to cockpit.

Devices will carry up to 12 32-bit cores, edge AI acceleration and 40MB of embedded memory, with a 64-bit microprocessor lineup to follow. DriveCore software adds virtual prototyping and AI-assisted porting from existing chips.

“Delivering vehicles and other physical systems that become smarter, safer and more efficient over time through new software fundamentally changes the requirements for the computing hardware,” Peter Schiefer, President of the Automotive Division at Infineon, said. “Microcontrollers need to become more configurable, scalable, and adaptable while maintaining highest safety and security levels as applications evolve.

“Aurix RC1 combines the flexibility of the open standard RISC-V with decades of Infineon expertise in providing dependable execution of safety-critical tasks in real-time. Our ambition is to redefine real-time compute and control for software-defined vehicles and extend this to Physical AI.”
