COLUMBIA — Two Columbia men have been arrested and charged in connection to a shooting at the Walmart on Grindstone Parkway on Sunday that left a 46-year-old man with a gunshot wound.

Antory King, 25, is charged with first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon and two counts of armed criminal action.

Michael Otey, 27, is charged with discharging a firearm as a persistent offender, three counts of armed criminal action, two counts of first-degree assault and possession of controlled substance.

The man who was shot was in stable condition following the shooting, according to the Columbia Police Department. The shooting happened around 7 p.m. Police said they initially responded to a report of stalking.

Probable cause statements allege that King and an unnamed person were in a Chevrolet Trailblazer when Otey and the victim pulled up to the car in front of the Walmart entrance. The victim stood next to his own vehicle and was yelling and pointing at the unnamed person, according to the statements.

The unnamed person backed the Trailblazer up to block in Otey and the victim’s vehicle, according to court documents. She told officials she did this to alert Walmart security of the situation, according to court documents.

The victim walked up to the passenger side of the vehicle, where King was seated, before turning back to his own car, according to court documents. When the victim returned to the Trailblazer, he punched King in the face and walked away before the Trailblazer drove off, according to court documents.

The Columbia Police Department has cleared the scene at the Grindstone Walmart Supercenter but are still investigating the shots fired incident.

A criminal complaint filed in King’s case alleges he shot the victim. The complaint filed in Otey’s case alleges he shot at the vehicle.

Walmart told KOMU 8 News in a statement it is cooperating with the investigation.

“We appreciate the swift response of first responders and will work closely with law enforcement as they investigate,” Walmart said in the statement.
